There is a reason why Bryson City is called "The Outdoor Adventure Capital of the Great Smoky Mountains" (a little wordy but fitting).   From whitewater rafting to scenic train excursions, there is plenty to do within 30 minutes of our retreat to keep things interesting for everyone in your group. 

• Nantahala Outdoor Center- Your adventure starts here.  Choose from a variety of activities for all skill levels including whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, stand up paddleboarding on Fontana Lake, zip lining through the tree canopy on our Mountaintop Zipline Tour, and testing your skills traversing the Treetop Adventure Park + Zip – an elevated ropes challenge course with 16 obstacles. NOC also offers guided and self-guided mountain biking and hiking in the Nantahala National Forest and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

• Wildwater Nantahala Rafting & Canopy Tours. The Nantahala is the perfect river for first time rafters, school groups and families vacationing in the Smokies. Our KidZip offers a zipping experience for kids 4-12.
• Fontana Guides. Look no further for the ultimate Great Smoky Mountain Fishing Experience! We offer guided fishing trips year-round in beautiful Western North Carolina. Fly fishing or conventional tackle, river or lake fishing, wade or float trips. For the non fisherman we offer scenic daytime and sunset cruises on Fontana Lake. There is no better way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife of the Great Smoky Mountains than from the water!
• Tuckaseegee Outfitters. Rafting, kayaking, and tubing solo as well as guided tours located just minutes from the cabin.

• Bryson City Trails.  There are too many to mention, and Bryson City has beautifully laid out all hikes nearby with search filters to help you find your perfect hike. 
• The Road to Nowhere is a scenic mountain highway that takes you six miles into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and ends at the mouth of an abandoned tunnel.  Stunning as well as spooky, this is a lovely hike year 'round but especially fun in the fall. 

• Elk Viewing at Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Come see elk near Cherokee, NC. Grazing herds of elk can often be spotted in the Smoky Mountains, most often at Cataloochee Valley and in the fields that surround the Oconaluftee Visitors Center. Elk have even been seen forging the Oconaluftee River on occasion.
• The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. The historic Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Depot sits in the heart of Bryson City, North Carolina – a favorite regional attraction for family fun. A round-trip on the train is an ideal way to see extraordinary places that you can’t get to by car. Get a front-row view of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest, Fontana Lake, extraordinary trestles, pristine mountain rivers, historic structures, and stunning foliage.
• Sequoyah National Golf Club. Embark on an exciting golf journey with our scenic 18-hole course, featuring stunning views, beautiful landscapes, and a thrilling smoky mountain adventure.

• Harrah's Cherokee Casino.  The entertainment goes beyond just the slot machines at Harrah's Cherokee, just 10 minutes away from our cabin.  Concerts, comedy, bowling, and more await at Harrah's Cherokee.  
• Fireside Bar at Fryemont Inn. The full-service fireside bar opens for afternoon cocktails at five o’clock. A popular spot with visitors and locals alike, it’s a great place to unwind after a day of outdoor activities, to meet friends, watch the game, play billiards, or order a snack or light dinner from the bar menu.
• Music Bingo at Big Wesser. Come enjoy Music Bingo by the river at NOC every Thursday starting on June 4th. Instead of numbers, your bingo card is on your phone and is filled with songs. As your host plays clips, just listen, tap, and mark your card. Music bingo is seasonal. 
• Trivia Night at Innovation Brewing in Sylva. Every Monday we all gather at the Sylva taproom for trivia! Our host starts rolling out questions around 7pm! Space is tight, so make sure you get here early for a seat. There are prizes for 1st and 2nd place.

• Bryson City Bakery.  A wonderful gift shop with a little something for everyone, an attached coffee shop with of course pastries ready to order.  
• One Twenty Main. If you are admiring the art in our cabin, chances are it came from this gorgeous gallery owned by local artist Ashley Hackshaw.  
• End of Main Antiques in Sylva.  A quirky and cool vintage finds store in Sylva.
• In Your Ear Music Emporium. You will need to clear your afternoon for this wonderful Sylva find.  Rifle through thousands of records, enjoy the posters, and just enjoy the vibe.  Bring a coffee from one of the nearby cafes. 
• Medicine Man Crafts.  Here you can peruse and purchase from our wide selection of authentic Native-American arts and herbals. Since 1963 the Medicine Man Craft Shop has provided a unique shopping experience in the middle of Cherokee, NC. The shop has become a destination place for many collectors and students of Native American goods, and a gathering place of those who want to experience the ‘spirit’ as well as the culture of Cherokee.
• Twisted Sisters Gifts.  Our little sasquatch in the yard is from this funky store.  Affordable metal art to peruse as well as plenty of journals, crafts, and more! 

• Museum of the Cherokee People. Begin your Cherokee introduction at the museum that has shared our vibrant story for 76 years. At the Museum of the Cherokee People, visitors experience the living culture, art, and heritage of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. From exhibitions interpreting our ancestral connection to these mountains to engaging events showcasing the latest art, film, and music from trailblazing Cherokee creatives, there is always something new to learn.

• Appalachian Rivers Aquarium. On the banks of the Tuckasegee River in downtown Bryson City sits an unassuming campus full of adventure and education! Though Appalachian Rivers Aquarium may be a little smaller than your “average” aquarium, we’re anything but average! Within our small frame there are over 4,000 gallons of water, housing a variety of freshwater fish, amphibians, and at times crustaceans and other macroinvertebrates. In addition to our fish exhibits and smaller terrariums, we boast the largest display tank in the southeast for the state-endangered Eastern Hellbender Salamander.
• Smoky Mountains Train Museum. Smoky Mountain Trains is more than an ordinary museum. With its collection of 7,000 Lionel™ engines, cars and accessories, impressive operating layout, children’s activity center, and gift/toy shop, Smoky Mountain Trains has something for everyone.
• Oconaluftee Indian Village Living History Museum.  Upon entering the Village, you’ll be transported to a world where the vibrant traditions of the Cherokee come alive. Guided tours lead you through a series of engaging craft demonstrations by our award-winning artisans. Here, you’ll witness the intricate techniques used in traditional Cherokee crafts and have the opportunity to engage with artisans who are passionate about preserving their cultural heritage.
